Monthslong Search Leads To Apprehension Of Maryland Shooting Suspects: Sheriff

The lengthy investigation into a shooting that led to a 21-year-old man being airlifted to a Maryland hospital led to the arrests of two men, the St. Mary's County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Darrick Monte Evans, 43, and Demetrius Rashud Piufory, 44, both of California, were identified as suspects and are now in custody, according to a spokesperson from the sheriff's office on Wednesday, July 27.

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 28,, deputies from the sheriff's office responded to the 46700 block of Marshall Boulevard in Lexington Park, where there was a reported shooting, officials said.

Upon arrival, deputies located Lexington Park resident Danicco Theodore Hall, who had been shot multiple times, investigators said. He was airlifted to an area trauma center in critical condition.

He remains hospitalized in stable condition on July 27, according to the sheriff's office.

On Tuesday, July 26, detectives from the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division located Evans and Puffery, who were arrested without incident and charged with:

  • First-degree attempted murder;
  • Second-degree attempted murder;
  • Armed Robbery;
  • Reckless endangerment;
  • Multiple handgun offenses.

Both men are being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown on a no-bond status.
